Happy Valentine's Day

I have not really been paying attention to the fashion week this time, partly because I've been so busy and partly because the pictures I saw were not particularly interesting or exciting. Until today - when I saw what Mr. Jacobs had done... Crazy wonderful is how I would describe his collection. A nice Valentine's Day surprise. Fun and exciting for sure. Finally something to blog about!

Show Pony

The guest outfits at fashion shows were very colorful this year.. not the usual black.. all the more for us mere mortals to gawk at. I wish I had been a fly on the wall (or the guest sitting behind) to hear the conversation between Nicki Minaj and Anna Wintour. Some mind reading ability would have been fun too, to find out what Wintour really thought about Minaj's outfit..

BCBG

Dresses are still big for Spring 2012. Here are a couple that I love from BCBG collection.

Notice the length! There's something very modern in the blue. Love the grey and a shot of orange color. Both dresses are very sporty and yet feminine.

New York Fashion Week

I love following the New York Fashion Week. For years I used to work right next to Bryant Park where the shows were held in giant tents, and I would stroll around during my lunch hour enjoying the atmosphere and a glimpse of a model or a guest arriving here and there. This is the first time the fashion week is being held at the Lincoln Center, which in my opinion is just as fitting a place for fashion as Bryant Park, and anyway, I no longer work near to the park, so I have to enjoy the week just by following the shows in the news and online. The week kicked off yesterday with the Vena Cava show, here are a couple of my faves. Love the blue and gray combination, and what an easy summer hairstyle!

When did the FASHION week become all about CELEBRITIES?

Fashion week is supposed to be about FASHION! For a long time though, the trend has been more about who attends the fashion shows, and who sits in the first row, than the actual clothes that are showed. This spring that seems more true than ever. Another thing that irks me, is that for some reason, mature women are not expected to be fashionable or chic. And if they are, it's a big deal. Witness the picture below, titled "Chic Cougars". These wonderful ladies attended the Donna Karan show, first row, of course.

Goodbye McQueen

Such sad news at the opening of the New York Fashion Week. (Lee) Alexander McQueen, a very talented fashion designer with an individual style and vision, passed away in London this morning.

The whole fashion industry and we non-industry fans are still in a state of schock.

Here's a link to the the Wall Street Journal blog that discusses fashion world's insider's first reactions to McQueens passing.

Goodbye McQueen - may your fashions live on.
